Writing

In addition to directing, I love to write. I carry over my mission of playing, provoking, and providing into my writing with the additional goal of creating numerous opportunities for directors and designers to let their own imaginations run wild and truly make the play their own. My plays center around complicated characters of marginalized communities to create opportunities for actors of those marginalized communities (and myself) to explore the complexities of identity, prejudice, and human flaw. If you would like a sample of any of these plays please send me an email by clicking on the contact tab.

They Matter

They Matter is a full length play about the heartache, challenges, and secrets that get revealed after a Mexican family in the U.S. receive the life shattering news that the eldest child, Juan, has been killed by a police officer. The police officer’s defense was that Juan was carrying a gun at the time; consequently, Sofia (50’s - their mother, short tempered but devoted to her kids) tries to find a legal team to defend her son and prove the gun was planted. As Sofia does, the estranged siblings, Xavier (17 - a passionate, albeit naïve and dramatic, activist) and Alex (16 – a sensitive and reserved child) reconnect and reveal secrets they have been keeping from the family, including the truth about the gun.

Advanced to the Semifinals of the 2019 Harold Clurman Playwright Residency and the 2nd Round of the 2020 Austin Film Festival Playwriting Competition (top 20%).

As she grows older she learns what a first crush feels like, what it means to be a "wetback," her father's immigration story, and the bitter cruelties of prejudice. The play is told through her diary entries which come to life through an ensemble of shadows.

Triggered

Triggered is a short screenplay about the night AJ, a gay college freshman at the University of Chicago, loses his virginity. The script jumps from the Psi Upsilon fraternity annex to a hospital through a series of escalating, distorted flashbacks.
